What is Urogynaecology?
Urogynaecology is a field in medicine dedicated to the treatment of women with pelvic floor disorders such as urinary or faecal incontinence and prolapse (bulging or dropping) of the bladder, bowel and/or the uterus. These problems can often occur together.
It is estimated that 1 in 3 women who ever had a baby would suffer from some degree of urinary incontinence and 1 out of 9 women would require surgery for urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse by age 80. Sadly, a lot of women suffer in silence and do not seek medical assistance due to the associated embarrassment and incorrect perception that nothing can be done about it.
However, HELP is available. Treatment for such embarrassing and at times debilitating conditions are available. Often, minor problems can be overcome by non-surgical conservative measures and/or medications. With the advancement in medical science, various minimally invasive or advanced surgical interventions are also available. Treatment can also often be tailor-made to suit your needs.
